The strong economic fundamentals and demographic trends of Asia are offering the best ideas for hedge funds and investors. Indeed, one participant in the latest Opalesque Hong Kong Roundtable described Asia’s dynamic economic activities as a wealth of opportunities for fund managers.
Discussing their strategies and how to move forward under existing environment in Hong Kong and mainland China, fund managers and advisors who took part in the Opalesque roundtable were unanimous in saying that Asia is a region of growth and opportunities.
Denise Hu, CIO of Archer Asia, an Asian-focused investment management and research firm, said “Apart from the strong economic fundamentals and demographic trends, what is interesting about Asia for hedge fund managers is the information asymmetry and inefficiencies in the markets,” she said.
The different economic cycles by Asian countries are experiencing, coupled by changing regulations create attractive opportunities for hedge fund managers experienced in trading Asian markets, Hu explained.
Although the number of fund launches in Asia has been relatively small, many of them are being managed by talented managers from established hedge funds, bringing with them the track record, know-how and hands on experience to run hedge fund strategies in Asia.......................
