Australian Hedge Funds Award names Prodigal Absolute Cayman Fund ‘Hedge Fund of the Year’

From the Opalesque team: The Australian Fund Awards for 2010 on Thursday named Prodigal Absolute Cayman Fund ‘Hedge Fund of the Year’ during its annual awards ceremony held at the Establishment in Sydney.

Triple A Partners Australia’s Director Damien Hatfield said there were approximately 160 funds in consideration for the various awards, but only a selected few were recognized. The awardees represent the best of the best funds in Australia.

"The local industry… doesn't get much attention from offshore investors because of the tyranny of distance. Interestingly there are some large Superannuation funds and family offices investing or looking at local talent." Hatfield said in an emailed statement today.

Other funds which were recognized during the awards night were the following:

Best Long Short and Absolute Return: Prodigal

Best Market Neutral Fund: Tasman Market Neutral (Regal)

Best Emerging Manager: Pengana Asia Special Events Fund

Best Global Macro/Commodities/Futures: GMO Systematic Global Macro

Best Fund of Funds: NZ Asset Management

Best Australian Investor: INGIM

Contribution to the Industry: David Bell
