Kedge Capital hires ex-GLG CIO Neil Hobson as head of Investment Research

From the Opalesque team: Francois-Serge Lhabitant, who has been CIO at Kedge Capital Fund Management Ltd since 2004, has informed Opalesque that his firm had just hired Neil Hobson, the ex-CIO of GLG’s funds of funds.

Hobson will join Kedge on November 1st as the head of Investment Research. Lhabitant, also an author and an associate Professor of Finance at EDHEC Business School, will continue serving as CIO.

Since the well-publicized announcement of Man Group’s purchase of listed hedge fund house GLG in May, two NYC-based GLG salesmen left and went to work for credit hedge fund manager CQS. We may see more GLG staff leave the company following to the finalization of the merger.

Kedge Capital now runs $6bn in hedge funds, and $10bn in total assets. It has been running money for both the Bertarelli family since 2001 and for external investors since 2004.

According to Lhabitant, the Bertarelli family is mostly known for formerly owning Ares-Serono, the largest European biotech company which they sold to Merck in 2007, and for twice winning the America's Cup sailing - or losing it last year, depending ......................
