From Sagar Chakraverty, Opalesque Asia:
London-based LNG Capital, saw its Absolute Return Fixed Income Fund up 81% in 2009, and returning 27% YTD (to end-Feb). This fund is a multi-strategy global fixed income fund with a European focus, that seeks to generate steady income through fundamental analysis, market timing, and an absolute return investing approach.
With offices in London, Switzerland, France and Asia, LNG is a UK FSA regulated firm, founded in 2006, focusing on multi-strategy, absolute return, fixed income fund management.
A fixed income fund invests solely in investments such as bonds or certificates of deposit, which generate fixed income. These funds are dependable and limit the amount of risk an investor takes on, although it could mean a lesser return that would be possible in a more risky fund. However, an absolute return fund seeks to make positive returns in all scenarios by using techniques such as short selling, futures, options, derivatives, arbitrage, leverage and unconventional assets.
LNG’s fund’s multi-strategy approach is based on five key styles of return, which are -1) investment grade, 2) core high yield, 3) event-driven, 4) special situations, and 5) relative value. Limited gearing is employed, and the fund emphasizes liquidity. These strategies range from directional to high alpha arbitrage and event-driven stances, and cover diverse time-frames.
