From Precy Dumlao, Opalesque Asia:
The Japanese financial landscape is offering a unique opportunity to bridge Asia and North America especially China and the United States because its political and economic systems as well as legal frameworks conform with Western standards, and at the same time, has close and cultural relations to the Asian region.
This was the assessment given by participants in the recently-concluded Opalesque Tokyo roundtable (report here).
Dr. Izumi Kazuhara, head of NYSE Liffe Tokyo said that Japan’s geopolitical positions provide an ideal synergy between Asia and the West.
Rory Kennedy, COO of Rogers Investment Advisors, an emerging alternative asset management firm headquartered in Tokyo, agreed with Kazuhara and described the Japanese policy towards the economic rise of India and China; indeed, while Europe and America see India, China and the rest of Asia as an economic threat, Japan is looking at these developments as an opportunity.
Kennedy said at the roundtable: “The Asian growth story is massively benefiting many Japanese companies but this is not yet being really reflected in the prices of Japanese firms. As such, we feel that Japan offers an excellent opportunity for investors to participate in the growth of Asia without the enormous volatility of the Asia Ex-Japan markets.”
