Other voices: Morningstar will face challenges with hedge fund rating

James R. Hedges IV, president of LJH Global Investments LLC in Naples, Fla., has doubts as to whether Morningstar will be able to apply a variation of its popular ratings system to hedge funds. “I think a lot of people have thought long and hard about starting some kind of Morningstar-type ratings for hedge funds,” he said. “But the fact is, the characteristics of performance and fees in mutual funds aren’t that analogous to the hedge fund landscape.” Mr. Hedges added that the re-search and evaluation of hedge funds is more qualitative than quantitative, thus hampe......................
