Q3 indices reveal improving investor sentiment in Asia-Pacific, more positive on recovery mode

Confidence among investors in the Asia-Pacific region further strengthened in the third quarter, according to top investment houses ING and JP Morgan based on separate surveys conducted on selected high net worth individuals.

In separate statements, global financial services group ING and JP Morgan reported that though investors were generally positive, they raised concerned as to how the emerging market economies in Asia will respond if governments tighten their monetary policies in 2010.

ING: Asia investors turn lukewarm on China and India

The ING Investor Dashboard Sentiment Index for Asia (Source) showed investor confidence improving by 16.3% to 135 in Q3-09 compared to the 116 recorded in Q2-09.

The ING survey also noted that investors surveyed in China gave the economy a modest 162 rating, which was only a 2.5-point increase from Q2-09's 158 rating. India, on the other hand, suffered a decline of 8 points as investor confidence recorded in Q3-09 is at 168 from 182 posted in Q2-09.

ING's side notes in the survey said that investors anticipate some market corrections in China and India in the coming months.
