As SEC investigations in hedge fund industry rise, more firms face the reality of weighing cost of investigation against cost of settlement

It is widely expected the SEC investigations across the financial markets and including hedge funds will continue to rise. Law firms have issued warnings to financial clients, such as the one sent by Sadis & Goldberg in August which read, "The SEC appears determined to issue more subpoenas and give people more incentives to cooperate with investigations as it works to enhance its oversight of the financial markets," (Opalesque Exclusive: SEC investigations expected to rise as regulatory removes internal approval hurdles to allows staff to be more aggressive)
