From Matthias Knab, Opalesque Europe: The China Investment Corporation (CIC) released its first annual report, which you can download from our site at the "Source" link at the bottom.
The report details that:
- The Sovereign Wealth Fund now has $298 billion in assets under management
- 50% is earmarked for global investments
- It only invested $4.8 billion in 2008
- 87.4% of assets were in cash and cash products at the end of 2008
- Returned -2.1% on its global portfolio
While this annual report may be light on details regarding investment strategy, readers will find it very helpful in understanding the make-up and workings of the CIC's bodies and its key people. A large portion of the report is dedicated to organizational charts and detailed information on the composition of its bodies and advisors, including brief CVs and photos.
For example, it can be learned that Arminio Fraga, founding partner of hedge fund Gavea Investimentos and former President of the Central Bank of Brazil, is one of the fourteen members of the International Advisory Committee.
