Independent boutique Veritas beefs up long/short funds team and AuM with new appointment

Veritas is beefing up its hedge fund team through the appointment of Farouk Abillama from Dresdner Kleinwort as senior sales manager. Farouk will be focused on raising assets for the group's Real Return range of hedge funds. This follows the appointment of Raymond Foo from Brevan Howard to Veritas' Asia team last month. Raymond Foo, an Asia specialist, wil fulfill the role of senior analyst and work from the company's office in Hong Kong, which was opened only last week, together with fund manager Ezra Sun, one of the leading Asia find managers in the world.

Veritas, which has offices in London and Zurich and more than GBP1bn in total AuM, is a wealth manager and an investment manager running segregated portfolios and funds, with either long-only or long-short real return mandates. One of its three teams manages global long-only and long/short funds; the second team manages Asian long-only and long/short funds; and the third team manages private clients and bespoke portfolios.

The long-only funds are called the Veritas funds and the long-short funds are the Real Return funds. Among them is the Real Return Asian Fund, Veritas' only pure hedge fund.
