Fund manager dies in Brazil plane crash

Mr Roger Ian Wright passed away on May 22nd, in a plane crash in the town of Trancoso, Bahia state, Brazil. The plane was coming from Sao Paulo. Mr. Wright, 56, was an ex-partner of Banco Garantia and owner of Arsenal Investimentos.

Arsenal is an independent advisory firm focused on corporate finance and capital advisory services based in Sao Paolo. Arsenal runs about $2bn in hedge fund investments which it invests into single managers based in Brazil, an industry source told Opalesque.

The plane belonged to Roger Wright, who was travelling with family members. Several press reports said that the plane crashed while trying to land during a heavy storm. Fifteen people were killed, including 11 adults and 4 children.

According to a communication obtained by Opalesque, Mr. Wright had run the company since its launch seven years ago: "Roger leaves us with a remarkable legacy, which surpasses the professional side. As a human being, Roger was full of joy, brightness, intensity, and generosity. We lost our greatest and best model and the Brazilian financial market lost a reference of integrity and business vision," the communication said.

As a result of Mr. Wright's work at Arsenal, the Sao Paulo-based company has a strong structure and a team comprised of 34 highly-skilled professionals, who are prepared to take the challenges that lie ahead.
