Hong Kong SFC reports short-selling activities increased in 2008, although lower in 4Q

From The Opalesque Team: According to Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission's research paper No. 43 published yesterday (16-Feb), 'Review of the Hong Kong Securities Market in 2008', short-selling activities increased in 2008, both in absolute terms and as a percentage of total trading.

The increase probably was related to the sluggish market performance and more trading opportunities amid a more volatile market. Nevertheless, the reports notes that there is no consistent relationship between market performance and changes in short selling activities.
