UBS`s market-neutral hedge fund launched in March up 9% YTD From Finalternatives.com: While this may not be the ideal market to launch a hedge fund, UBS is enjoying surprising success. UBS Global Asset Management has launched the U.S. Fundamental Equity Market Neutral fund, an equity long/short hedge fund.

The portfolio is market-, sector- and factor-neutral. It is broadly diversified, typically holding 100 to 150 long positions and 100 to 200 short positions. Since inception in March, the fund has reported a gain of 9.1%, according to public databases… full article: Source

Opalesque Exclusive: Gottex` share price dropped From the Opalesque team: Swiss newspaper Le Temps reported last week that since its listing on 6th November 2007, share prices in Lausanne-based giant FoHFs house Gottex had dropped more than 90% (from CHF73 to CHF5.75).

According to an analyst, the drop was partly due to the indirect exposure to Petters Group. But it also reflected market fears and massive redemptions from the alternatives market. The firm itself is not having a problem right now, she said. Up until now, redemptions have been limited. In the third quarter, Gottex, which is also a partner of the local Banque Cantonale Vaudoise (BCV) in the management of alternatives, has announced net redemptions of $490m.
