Castlestone launching UCITS compliant version of offshore Aliquot Agriculture Fund

From the Opalesque Team: Castlestone Management has announced the October 1, 2008 launch of the Aliquot Agriculture (UCITS) Fund, which will be a UCITS compliant mirror version of the offshore Aliquot Agriculture Fund. The portfolio will be overseen by Angus Murray, Leon Diamond and Matthew Sena. The original Aliquot Agriculture Fund was launched in March 2008 amidst the booming demand for agricultural commodities. The UCITS compliant version of the fund will look to take advantage of the same agriculture market dynamics and invest in exchange-traded funds and exchange-traded commodities to mirror as closely as possible the investments of the offshore fund.

In a recent Opalesque series on UCITS compliant funds (see Source) Mr. Aymeric Lechartier, Business Development manager at the consultancy firm Carne explained that "Having UCITS, which in effect applies a certain level of control to the strategies and limits the leverage, would enable those pension funds to allocate a wider proportion of their assets to alternative strategies." In the same way, Castlestone is hoping to provide an actively managed agriculture fund to "investors who have requested exposure to this asset class with the protection of a UCITS framework."
