Winners of Institutional Investor`s 6th Annual Hedge Fund Industry Awards

Kirsten Bischoff, Opalesque New York: Wednesday evening many of the hedge fund industry's best and brightest gathered at Cipriani Wall Street for Institutional Investor's 6th Annual Hedge Fund Industry Awards.

The dinner included the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Michael Steinhardt. Steinhardt launched one of the first hedge fund firms in 1967 (Steinhardt Fine Berkowitz, later Steinhardt Partners) which achieved annual average net returns of nearly 25% over a 28 year period. Wryly noting the time passage implications which come with the receipt of a lifetime achievement award Steinhardt reflected that the moments which most impacted his career in the industry were those when things did not go as expected, as it was in those moments which he learned.

Also being specially recognized was Phil Goldstein who received the Outstanding Contribution to the Hedge Fund Industry Award for his public battles for the rights of hedge fund managers. Goldstein took the opportunity to note that as important as his legal fights for hedge fund rights are, first and foremost are the rights of his investors, for whom his firm Bulldog Investments have achieved a 15 year track record of 15% annualized returns.
