Opalesque Exclusive: RWC Partners hires two from Sofaer, to launch Asia hedge fund RWC Partners (formally known as MPC Investors) today announced that Carmel Peters and Kirsty McLaren will be joining from Sofaer Capital. In the coming months they will launch a new Asia focussed hedge fund to complement RWC Partners’ existing range of funds.

Carmel was the lead portfolio manager at Sofaer responsible for the Sofaer Capital Asia Hedge Fund. Carmel has been investing in Asian equities for 25 years and joins RWC Partners with a strong track record. Having previously been the Director in charge of Asian Equities and Emerging Markets for Putnam Investments, Carmel also acted as CIO for Rothschild Asset Management in Hong Kong.

Kirsty McLaren was the joint portfolio manager for the Sofaer Asia Hedge Fund and has over 13 years of experience in Asian and Emerging Market equities. Kirsty initially worked with Carmel at Rothschild Asset Management before moving to JPMorgan securities on the Asian desks.

The Sofaer Capital Asia Hedge Fund was nominated for the AsiaHedge long short equity award for 2007.

RWC Partners will be launching an Asian equity long-short fund run by Carmel and Kirsty to build on their previous experience and track record. It is anticipated the fund will be launched in the third quarter of 2008.
