Opalesque Exclusive: SEC and CFTC to cooperate in review of new 'securities/futures' hybrid derivatives, CFTC to tighten monitoring of 'all large traders' Kirsten Bischoff, Opalesque New York: Wednesday marked the end of the comment period for additional concerns to be voiced in conjunction with the forum the CFTC held to further review the driving forces in the current agricultural markets. In a meeting with the US Senate Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government Committee on Appropriations, Acting Chairman of the CFTC Walter Lukken spoke to the current environment in the commodity markets. Some of the points he addressed were as follows:

- There will be a June 10th meeting of the newly formed Energy Markets Advisory Committee. In the same way that the agricultural forum was held in April, this meeting will look at issues related to the energy markets.

- The CFTC and the SEC have jointly entered into a cooperative agreement under the formation of a memo of understanding. Through this agreement both agencies will share information and coordinate the review of novel derivatives products that have attributes of both securities and futures.

- The CFTC has requested additional funds specifically earmarked for allowing the CFTC to further “monitor daily positions of all large traders and the ability to analyze minute by minute trades of these market participants including hedge funds an......................
