...And finally: Breaking News - Hatfield Liptak Advisors start `Hedge Fund Surf Club`, prime brokers can apply for cap intro conference sponsorships at famous surfing breaks

Friday, April 25, 2008

Sydney based Hatfield Liptak Advisors told Opalesque they have started "the Hedge Fund Industry Surf Club". Damien Hatfield says he recently took a group of "hedge fund industry types" on a surfari up the New South Wales Coast, and "great surf was had at Bluey's Beach and Cresent Head". Hatfield said "it was incredible that after a big dinner at the Cresent Head Mediterranean Motel, we woke up to classic 4 foot waves pumping around the headland. This is one of the longest right hand rides in the world!"

The club was formed as a result of Long Island Hedge Fund industry surfer Kevin Heller who works for the Focus Group in New York. Hatfield said that Kevin "provides massive positive motivation considering he surfs in near freezing conditions".

The club would includes a large group of UBS prime broker surfers, Cadence Capital, Ted Lee of SPARX Asset Management, Regal Funds, and many more.

As a footnote, Hatfield added that there was a shark attack at Cresent two weeks later. Fortunately, the young surfer "was just nibbled", according to Hatfield.

Opalesque Note: Damien Hatfield urged me that I "must" join the club. He added he and his hedge fund surfers "want to make this global and get one of the prime brokers to run a cap intro conference at a famous surfing break." Okay, I'll probably join then....;-).
