Opalesque Exclusive: A marriage made in special situations - NYC specialist partners with Shanghai group to co-invest in distressed opportunities Benedicte Gravrand, Geneva: Octavian Advisors, LP, a $1.1bln alternative investment management firm specializing in international distressed and special situations, announced a joint venture and strategic alliance with The Goshawk Group. The Goshawk Group, headquartered in Shanghai, invests in distressed and proprietary corporate and real estate opportunities throughout Asia. Goshawk is an affiliate of Chenco Holdings, a leading trans-Pacific investment firm.

“We are pretty exited about partnering with them because they have a very strong network and a significant number of people over there,” Mr. Hurowitz told Opalesque. Indeed, Octavian will have access to more than 30 Mandarin-speaking personnel based in offices in Shanghai, Taipei, and Tianjin to help find and diligence potential investments in both the private and public equity markets.

Octavian will exploit the range of complex and proprietary situations that Asia can offer, as well as further develop a presence there for distressed deals and as merchant capital providers.
