Fortis event - FoFs still rocking

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

From Benedicte Gravrand, Geneva: The Geneva branch of Fortis Prime Fund Solutions (website) will be hosting a networking reception for hedge fund managers and investors at 4.30pm on 18th October, at the Hotel Metrople in Geneva.

The featured speakers will be Mr. Randall Dillard from London-based Liongate Capital, whose talk will be on how FoFs can outperform in the current market cycle. And Mr. Hans-Joerg Baumann from Swiss Capital, who will talk about diversification and concentration in FoFs. Mr. Baumann gave a taster to Opalesque:

"The discussion will be mainly about diversification and concentration in the FoFs approach... whenever you have certain market events, you see that in certain market situations, people ask for broad diversification, and in other events people just ask for more concentration. I will talk about the impact in terms of expected volatility in the portfolio and the inherent risks in such approaches.

The key emphasis will be the differentiation between broadly diversified multi-managers, focused multi-managers and single-strategy FoFs. So it will be mainly about the differentiation between broadly diversified multi-managers, with in general more than 60 managers, and focused multi-strategies with roughly 15 to 25 managers or single-strategy as well as factor-strategy FoFs - which are by definition more concentrated."
