Opalesque Exclusive: Spanish financial holding spins out alternatives management and advisory firm CM Capital Markets has spun out Valira Asset Management to coordinate its activities in alternative investments. CM Capital Markets had two main areas of activity: Fund of Hedge Funds management and advisory, and the second one is fund distribution. The management and advisory team has agreed with CM Capital Markets to split its business from the holding company. The management and advisory team has created a new company, called Valira Asset Management. This company will manage the same products and mandates that were run at CM Capital Markets.

The President of Valira Asset Management is Carlos Fernández-Rubíes, former President of CM Capital Markets Bolsa, the General Manager is Santiago Moro, former General Manager of CM Capital Markets Bolsa, and the rest of the team remains the same. Valira said the new set-up will allow the firm to leverage its capabilities in the hedge funds space, both in Iberia and internationally. www.valiaraam.com
