2006 proves to be another stellar year for Okumus Capital Okumus Capital funds ended 2006 with net return after all fees between 34% and 14%.  The firm’s assets under management and the returns for each of the funds it manages are at an all time high.  Okumus Opportunity Fund, the flagship fund, was up 34% net of all fees in 2006 and is up more than tenfold since its 1997 inception.  Okumus’ tech focused hedge fund and traditional long only product were up 20% and 27% net of all fees respectively in 2006.  Okumus Diversified Value fund, the low volatility product, was up approximately 14.4% net of all fees in 2006.  This fund has annualized downside deviation of less than 0.7% since its inception.

Ahmet Okumus, the founder of Okumus Capital, and his investment team which comprises of nine professionals, whose personal investments in the funds represents over 25% of the USD 925m of assets under management remain focused on delivering steady returns.

Opalesque Note: Ahmet Okumus is one of the remaining “Stock Market Wizards” featured in Jack Schwager’s book who still run money. Initially published in 2001, the book consists of a set of interviews with stock traders which were conducted from mid 1999 through early 2000 – as we remember one of the biggest bull markets of all times. With these numbers, Okumus proves he does not need a bull market to stand out.
