Last week, we heard of fund launches from Atwater; Beacon Light Capital (global equities); Aros (onshore long-biased macro); Isometric (Asian securities); Gulfmena (Arab opportunities); Lucidus (high-yield debt); Legg Mason/Permal (global onshore); FS Capital (L/S equity); HSBC (UCITS FoHFs); Fabien Pictet and Partners (Ucits, emerging markets); and PSigma (US L/S Equity). Ervin Shindell and other Citadel veterans launched a hedge fund firm called RoundKeep Capital in Chicago; a former Goldman Sachs Group star hedge fund manager, Mark Carhart, said he would launch a new firm in 2010. Greenwich Global Hedge Fund Index up 2.9% in September, +16.8% YTD; Lyxor Hedge Fund Index was up + 1.14%, +5.40% YTD; AlternativeEdge Short-Term Traders Index up 0.045%, -1.064% YTD; RBC Hedge 250 Index returned +2.20% (est.), +17.44% YTD; Hedge Fund Replication Index up 0.99%, 7.7% YTD; Credit Suisse/Tremont Hedge Fund Index confirmed a performance of 3.04%, 14.97% YTD; Barclay Hedge Fund Index gained 3.25%, 20.05% YTD; Scotia Capital Canadian Hedge Fund Index was up 4.84%, YTD 20.97%; HFN Hedge Fund Aggregate Index retuned +2.74%, +16.76% YTD; HFN said that assets rose +2.98% to $1.948tln; Eurekahedge Hedge Fund Index up 2.45% (est.), 16.10% YTD; Eurekahedge also said assets could soon break through the $1.5tln barrier.
