Barnstar opportunities opens for business

Barnstar Opportunities Fund LP, is a multi-disciplinary, special situations long-bias fund, that launched yesterday, November 14, 2012. It will invest across the capital structure in U.S. companies that are significantly undervalued by the capital markets, for reasons of financial distress, regulatory issues, and/or unresolved litigation. The fund will be managed by Charles Fernandez, Founder and Chief Investment Officer, who was most recently the President and Co-Fund Manager of Fairholme Capital Management.

The Florida-based fund builds on Fernandez’s previous expertise working on special situations and event driven scenarios. He previously managed a long-only, hedged strategy within a mutual fund structure, and built a broad, deep network of industry veterans with expertise across business, legal, government and academic backgrounds. He has committed a significant portion of his personal net worth to the new fund, aligning his own interests directly with those of investors.

"We are focused on the dislocations created by changes in the financial, regulatory or legal environments around publically traded companies," explains Fernandez in an interview with Opalesque. "We are looking at the value of a given company after an event has occurred and making a determination whether it is worth it to get involved."
