“We can provide habitat for hedge funds moving to Switzerland, as well as trade facilitation and fund service and more.” This was the announcement that John Birch, partner at Gabelli’s GAMA Funds, made to his audience at last week’s Hedge 2009 conference in London. Gabelli, it seems, has just seized on a unique opportunity to make it easy for hedge funders thinking about flying away from it all.
Indeed, this is probably one of the first hedge fund hotels opening in response to all the commotion going in the rest of Europe - due to higher UK taxes coupled with uncertainties and a most probably very restraining European Commission Directive which will be voted next year (not to mention higher taxes and more regulations everywhere else in the world).
Gabelli & Partners partnered with the Institute For Innovative Trading AG (IFIT), in Zurich, to create a so-called “Hedge Fund Habitat”. IFIT is an independent developer and provider of technologies, infrastructures and services for the investment community. This “habitat” is really a professional environment for managers and traders, who can leave all their worries about relocation, accounting, taxes, fund structuring, trading software, risk management, middle and back office analysis, compliance, regulations, workspace and infrastructure to IFIT.
