The number of mergers and acquisition (M&A) deals in North America consistently declined during the first quarter (Q1) of 2020, from 1,178 in January to 1,024 in February and 820 in March.

According to GlobalData while the corresponding deal value registered growth at the start of Q1, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a decline towards the end of the quarter.
