The head of China’s $410 billion sovereign wealth fund CIC brushed aside a call by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to buy European government debt, saying such investments were “difficult” for long-term investors.

China Investment Corp (CIC) remains wary about investing in European government bonds despite a plea from Germany’s chancellor, but will look for opportunities in infrastructure and real industrial projects, Reuters reported Monday, citing the head of the country’s $410 billion sovereign wealth fund said on Monday.
European government bonds are not ideal for long-term investors like CIC, said Lou Jiwei, chairman of the fund. “For European bonds like the government bonds of Italy and Spain, only central banks with certain responsibilities can invest. China Investment Corp, the nation’s sovereign wealth fund, has received a capital injection after it invested almost all of its cash in 2010, said Lou Jiwei, CIC chairman.

Marin Software, a startup that publishes applications used to manage online advertising campaigns, has raised $30 million in a new investment round led by Singaporean sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings.

An Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund is exploring the sale of its US$1.3 billion (RM3.92 billion) stake in Malaysian lender RHB Capital Bhd, six months after buying the shares, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

A Future Fund to spread the benefits of the mining boom across the state has been proposed by the State Government. Parliament was told by Governor Kevin Scarce in his opening address that SA’s natural resources belonged to all South Australians and every person should share in the prosperity they would bring - “now and into the future”.

While they amount to a powerful force, account also needs to be taken of the increasing presence of sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) in the airport business. As with the infrastructure funds there were few of them only five years ago but there are now at least six that are active in the sector, the most recent being the Qatar Investment Authority.
