New Quadriga senior appointments - Christian Thum and Jarkko Matilainen

Opalesque Industry Update - Quadriga Asset Managers announced the senior appointments of Christian Thum and Jarkko Matilainen to the Quadriga Asset Managers team and Board.

Christian Thum, a German national, joins Quadriga as Senior Portfolio Manager Equity Long/Short Opportunities based in Madrid and brings 25+ years of investment and senior leadership experience across London, Frankfurt, and Zurich, including Solomon Brothers, Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch, where he was Managing Director and Head of Equity Proprietary Trading managing a team of 20 proprietary traders in Europe with billion+ mandates, subsequently Senior Portfolio Manager at leading hedge funds Marble Bar Asset Management, BTG Pactual, or Mako Group, and his own fund, CT Invest.

Christian holds a business degree from the University of Hamburg, Germany. We are thrilled to team up with Christian to complement and expand our offering our investment solutions to include global equity markets.

Jarkko Matilainen, a Finish national, joins Quadriga as a Board Member for our Luxembourg SICAV from Helsinki and brings 25+ years of investment and senior leadership experience in risk management, hedge funds, and ESG. Prior to co-founding NorthPeak Governance in 2018, Jarkko was a Portfolio Manager and Head of Hedge Funds at Varma Mutual Pension Insurance, one of the largest hedge fund investors in Europe, where he had overall responsibility for the team, portfolio and investments.

Before Varma, Jarkko co-founded Avenir, an equity long/short fund in Helsinki and started his career at Pension-Varma as an economist and strategist. In addition, Jarkko has served as a member of the UN PRI Hedge Fund Advisory Board since 2014 and chaired the PRI working group that developed the first industry-standard responsible investment due-diligence questionnaire for hedge funds. Jarkko holds a graduate degree (MSc, Economics) from the University of Tampere, Finland. "We are thrilled to team up with Jarkko to further strengthen our advisory and supervision board and strategic initiatives in ESG," said the company.

The additions of Christian and Jarkko are further evidence of our commitment to attract and retain best-in-class talent to provide superior investment solutions to our clients and expand on other recent senior appointments such as:

Susan Richards, a British national, joined Quadriga in 2020 as Chief Operating Officer based in Madrid and brings 35+ years of senior leadership experience in operations and control functions, including Bestinver and JP Morgan Spain and Portugal, where she was COO and SFO, responsible for finance, operations, technology, legal, tax and operational risks.

Luca Fedele, an Italian national, joined Quadriga in 2020 as Senior Portfolio Manager for Quadriga Stable Return UCITS and brings 11+ years of investment experience in London and Santiago de Chile, including Chief Investment Officer of Banchile Inversiones Alternativas Fund and asset allocation analyst at Credicorp. Luca has a Masters and Bachelors Degree in Finance from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, and holds the CAIA designation.

Jorge Peñalba, a Spanish national, joined Quadriga in 2018 as Senior Analyst for Quadriga Rho Investments and brings 8+ years of investment and corporate finance experience in London and Madrid, including Associate Director FIG at UBS. Jorge has a Bachelors in Business and Finance from CUNEF and International Business from the University of South Carolina-Columbia.

"In addition, we have also added talent via our graduate program, including David Serero, a French national, who joined Quadriga in 2020 as Quantitative Analyst for Quadriga Stable Return with degrees in Economics and Finance from the University of Exeter and University College London," it said.

David's dissertation focused on financial bubbles by quantifying investors' irrationality and narratives, and Gabriel Escudero, a Spanish national, joined Quadriga in 2020 as Analyst Client Services with Gabriel a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Exeter. Gabriel is a keen golf player with a professional handicap and has won numerous national and international competitions.
