E. Lee Hennessee, hedge fund pioneer, dies at 64

E. Lee Hennessee, 64, former Managing Principal of the Hennessee Group has been found dead at her home in the Trump Plaza West Palm Beach.

Hennessee is reported to have been found by her husband and business partner Charles Gradante on Saturday. The body has been taken to the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The family has confirmed her death.

The West Palm Beach Police Department would not confirm the identity of the Hennessee. Opalesque has reached out to the police department to independently confirm details prior to her death, following reports that police were called to the home on Friday evening. A report in the West Palm Beach Post says the death is not considered suspicious.

Hennessee began her career at Thomson McKinnon Securities in 1976 and then went on to create the first hedge fund index. Hennessee formed the first hedge fund consulting division of an international bank at Republic National Bank in 1992, following the formation of the Hennessee Hedge Fund Advisory Group in 1987 at Shearson Lehman Brothers/American Express. Hennessee and Gradante joined forces in 1997 to create the Hennessee Group as an independent entity. The firm was eventually acquired by Terrapin Asset Management in 2012.
