Barnegat hedge fund gains 3.1% in April (+10.5% YTD)

The Barnegat Fund reported its share price increased by 3.1% in April bringing its year-to-date gains to10.5% . The fund’s compounded annual rate of return is pegged at 18.8% since its launch in 2001.

In its latest results, Barnegat said its current assets under management (AuM) stands at $688,876,272. The fund’s volatility for April 2014 was 5.4%.

"As a result of the Dodd-Frank regulatory legislation, most swaps are now cleared on exchanges. The London Clearing House releases a lot of information on the make-up of those trades," Bob Treue, founder and CEO of the Barnegat Fund said.

Treue added, "About 85% of our swaps are still live. I believe Barnegat has a unique niche of focusing on fixed income mispricings that take years to sort themselves out. This data would seem to support that theory of minimal competition in long-term mispricings," he said.

Treue talked to Opalesque TV in February 2011 about his fund and about how the failure of LTCM had altered investors’ perception of the fixed income relative value strategy, possibly forever.

"It is incredibly important for fixed income arbitrage funds to have a lot of money sitting on the side, just waiting for that time of chaos, to be able to meet the margin calls and to continue on to the point where you can recognize the profits from your trades," Treue also said then (......................
