Even more surprising is that the firm, Saturna Capital, runs two stock funds that have produced terrific results despite -- or perhaps because of -- a requirement that they adhere to sharia, or Islamic law. Nicholas Kaiser, Saturna's chairman, launched Amana Income in 1986 after he was approached by a group of Muslim businessmen while he was with another firm.
