03.05.2013 - QAR8bln worth sukuk issued in Q1: QCB Governor
H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of Qatar Central Bank ( QCB ), yesterday said that Islamic banks in Qatar issued sukuk worth QR8bn by the end of the first quarter of 2013. The QCB , on behalf of the government, has issued sukuk worth QR39bn to help manage the liquidity of Islamic financial institutions to comply with Basel III norms. The sukuk issuances are likely to grow by 20 percent annually driven by high demand for Shariah- compliant products and finances globally. Sheikh Abdullah, in his opening address at the International Conference on Sukuk, said the total volume of investments of banks operating in Qatar in Islamic sukuk or bonds reached QR47bn for the same period..............................................Full Article: Source
