A proposal by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) for sovereign wealth fund GIC to use Central Provident Fund (CPF) monies to invest in the Singapore stock market touched off a lively debate, with opinion split down the middle. A number of observers panned the idea, which comes at a time when a government-appointed panel is due to recommend how CPF members can achieve higher returns through private investment plans.
