Egypt’s Salafi Islamists, who took a surprise second place in the first round of parliamentary elections, seek the gradual removal of non-Islamic banks and an eventual end to foreign borrowing. The Nour party, which follows a strict interpretation of Islamic law, will push for an expansion in Shariah-compliant lending to help the ailing economy reach “unprecedented” growth levels.
