Republican Donald Trump’s surprise win in the U.S. presidential election just three weeks ahead of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’ meeting in Vienna poses a unique dilemma for the oil-producer plan to curb crude production. Trump, who will take office in January, has said he wants to make the U.S. completely energy independent and remove restrictions on oil drilling on federal land. That could lead to a larger glut of supplies and lower prices, both of which are why OPEC reached a proposal in late September to curb member production.
