29.08.2016 - California Assembly Approves Bill to Sharply Reduce GHG Emissions
California’s lower house on Tuesday passed a bill to reduce the state’s greenhouse gas emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. The State Assembly approved the measure on a 49-30 vote, largely along party lines. Two Democrats opposed the bill, with five abstaining, while just one Republican voted in favor. The bill now advances to the State Senate, where it is expected to pass before being signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown. The bill would build on the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, the landmark legislation that required the state to reduce its emission to 1990 levels by 2020.
