Gold's prolonged winning streak came to an abrupt end this month. The yellow metal has been by far the standout performer in a volatile four months for markets. By the end of April, it was up 21 per cent to above $1,260 an ounce, says the Daily Telegraph, and as recently as 2 May, it hit an intraday high in excess of $1,300. But things have changed markedly over the past ten or so days.
