Organizations united under the Climate Justice Alliance say carbon markets will keep coal plants online in poor communities and near people of color, allowing the facilities to churn out plant-warming emissions and co-pollutants blamed for health problems including asthma and heart attacks. Last month, the alliance staged quiet demonstrations at regional EPA offices around the country to warn staffers who will review state carbon plans of trading's risks to certain populations. But big national environmental groups, like the Natural Resources Defense Council and Sierra Club, are working on the other side, pushing market-based state plans as the cheapest, most effective way to cut carbon emissions from power plants...............................................Full Article: Source
