Base metals took a breather Monday, with prices for tin, lead and zinc all trading higher on a day when the dollar was weakening, global equity markets were bleeding, and China, the biggest consumer of many such metals, was out to celebrate its Lunar New Year. At the London Metal Exchanges, prices for three-month contracts of tin, lead and zinc all gained about 3%. Aluminum and nickel were both up, too.
