Each February, the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town gives an opportunity for many to escape the northern hemisphere winter. Unfortunately, the attendees this year will not be able to escape the harsh reality of the global "commodities winter". The past year has seen a relentless stream of bad news for commodity markets, driven by faltering Chinese demand and ongoing over-supply for the major commodities. Truly "Antarctic weather" and not "Cape Town weather" prevails.
