With oil at prices lower than we have seen for more than a decade, the stock markets down on average 15 per cent in the first 15 days of the year, and commodities at record lows everywhere, it does not take gloomy weather to tell us there is panic in the air. But as I combed through the global commodities data to try to work out what is going on, I stumbled across one particular chart that amazed me – in the National Geographic of all eccentric places.
