Navratri, one of the auspicious festivals in the Hindu calendar, has opened on a strong note for the gold trade. While the price of gold has soared by almost Rs 600 - Rs 700 per 10 gm in last fortnight, footfalls too have increased at retail outlets as consumers, who have been holding back their purchases, have come out to buy jewellery seeing an upswing in prices. Consumers are preferring pure gold jewellery over diamond jewellery and lightweight jewellery in particular, is the flavour of the season. Only those who have wedding in the family after Diwali are buying heavy jewellery.
