16.09.2015 - Chinese cities pledge to cap CO2
In a new agreement with the U.S. set to be announced today, more than a dozen Chinese cities and provinces promised that their carbon dioxide emissions would peak by 2020, a decade before the country has promised to reach a peak. Andrew Restuccia has the details: "The new announcement builds on the climate change pact announced late last year by President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, and counters criticism from Republicans who have cast doubts on whether China was serious about stopping its emissions from rising by 2030 as it promised." It includes commitments from 11 Chinese cities and provinces to peak their emissions before 2030 under a new program called the 'Alliance of Peaking Pioneer Cities.' Beijing and Guangzhou both pledged to peak their emissions 'by the end of or around 2020,' according to the White House." ..............................................Full Article: Source
