25.08.2015 - Commodities face a severe price downturn, recovery not anytime soon
The metal index may have corrected 50% in the past one year and metal stocks may appear good value-buys, but given the structural negatives of a slowing China and a strong dollar, it may not be too long before the long-term bearish trend reasserts itself. According to a recent Barclays report, this is a much more severe commodity price downturn than any the market has experienced in recent history. The Chinese demand across metal commodities is likely to drop to 2-3% from double digits for the next 5 years and China consumes 40-50% of most of these commodities produced globally.
