Exchange-traded funds have revolutionised the investing world but some say they have yet to be tested in times of crisis. Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have democratised the investment world, offering ordinary investors low-cost access to asset classes that were previously the preserve of institutional money managers. However, there are fears that ETFs may also be a source of peril – both to ordinary investors and, in a worst-case scenario, to the broader financial system.
