Assets in ETFs/ETPs listed in Europe broke through the US$500 billion milestone to reach a new record of US$511 billion at the end of April according to ETFGI’s preliminary monthly ETF and ETP global insight report for April 2015. April marked the 15th anniversary of the listing of the first ETFs in Europe. 15 years ago, on April 11, 2000, the first ETFs were listed in Europe: the LDRs DJ STOXX 50 and the LDRs DJ Euro STOXX 50 were listed on the Deutsche Boerse AG, sponsored by Merrill Lynch International. iShares acquired these ETFs in September 2003 and rebranded them the iShares STOXX Europe 50 UCITS ETF and the iShares Euro STOXX 50 UCITS ETF.
