Woody’s Smokehouse, a restaurant and fuel station in Centerville, Texas, halfway between Dallas and Houston, posted a petrol price of $1.999 per gallon on Wednesday. It was only a one-day promotion, but it was a sign of a more sustained trend: fuel prices in the US have been falling fast. This week the average retail price of petrol in the US fell below $3 per gallon, down more than 70 cents since June.
