China is poised to launch a national carbon trading market – potentially the largest one in the world - but if its seven regional pilot projects are anything to go by, there is still much to be done. As the world's leading carbon emitter, China looms large in the climate change debate. So when a senior government official said in September that China plans to roll out a national carbon market in 2016, it raised hopes that the country is stepping up its efforts to rein in emissions.
