Platinum and palladium retreated as investors weighed the odds of an imminent resolution to South African mining industry strikes as talks resumed between union officials and mining companies. Platinum for April delivery fell $US7.50, or 0.5 per cent, to settle at $US1,421.10 a troy ounce, a two week low.
