As a general rule, commodities would be considered a riskier type of investment. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be in your portfolio, although it should be a commodity that you have some knowledge and familiarity about. Commodities are sometimes viewed as a hedge against inflation, so it would imply that commodities would be held for the longer term.
